A Triple Threat Match which saw CM Punk defend the WWE Title against John Cena and Ryback was deemed by announcers as the biggest threat to Punk's then-year long title reign heading into Survivor Series 2012.

Many believed Punk would have to be written as opportunistic if he was going to escape the event as champion. One thing nobody could foresee happening, however, was the collective debut of three NXT stars that would help the champ retain.

Dubbed The Shield, the trio of Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns blasted Ryback with a massive Powerbomb just after he had laid out Cena. This enabled Punk to pin one of his greatest rivals and successfully defend, but hardly any attention was paid to the actual finish itself. Everybody wanted to know what The Shield were all about.

There had been no concrete hints dropped on television that Ambrose, Rollins and Reigns would debut as a group, so this felt like a major bombshell that left Survivor Series going off the air amid chaos. What a way to debut, and what a way to establish The Shield as WWE's surprise hot topic straight away.
