10 WWE PPVs Fans Thought Would Totally Suck (But Didn’t)

8. Over The Edge 1998

Dude Love Steve Austin

WrestleMania XIV was notable for crowning Steve Austin as the new top dog, and Unforgiven: In Your House was decent the next month. Over The Edge though? Why, it was a retread - a needless filler show that'd tide the WWF over until King Of The Ring in June.

Not quite.

The raucous Milwaukee crowd, unique stage set and a few very fun matches saved this show. Also, if you're only interested in one match, do yourself a favour and watch the titanic Austin vs. Dude Love main event. Vince McMahon is a riot as special ref, and even stooges like Pat Patterson and Gerald Brisco take memorable bumps.

That WWF product was on a roll in '98, and it could do no wrong. Whilst not every match on the card is one you simply must watch (Jeff Jarrett vs. Steve Blackman is hardly pay-per-view worthy), there's enough going on generally to give this one pass marks.
