For me, the perfect retirement scenario for The Deadman would have been to see Taker bow out at this year's WrestleMania in front of 100,000 people in his home state in Texas. Since that isn't happening (I think), I hope Taker does a farewell tour of sorts by performing at each of the big four PPVs before losing to John Cena in the proverbial dream match at 2017's Mania. I don't want Taker performing any longer than that so we don't see any sort of decline from him. Every old school performer sees fit to do the honours by losing their last match, and Big Match John would be as big as a defeat that Taker could hope for.
