4 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE SmackDown (7 Aug - Results & Review)
Kevin Owens confronts CM Punk; Tatum Paxley debuts; WWE fumbles Chelsea Green.
WWE loaded SmackDown with a ton of star power, and there was even room for an NXT call up to make a splash on her main roster debut. Tatum Paxley might've just landed in a bloody great spot alongside Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss. Of course, things can go south pretty quickly after coming up from NXT (just ask Jordynne Grace), but at least Tatum's new stablemates guarantee her plenty of TV time.
Elsewhere, Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes vowed to show "the worst" of one another during their rekindled feud. No, they won't be botching RKOs or Cody Cutters. Instead, this is a proper chance for Rhodes (in particular) to show off why he'd be such a fantastic heel. There's a grudge match incoming, and it could be an absolute classic.
In the WWE Title scene, Kevin Owens followed up on his surprise return at SummerSlam by getting right up in the face of reigning champ CM Punk. KO refused to call Punk...Punk. He's plain old Phil to Kev. Later, Sami Zayn did some of his trademark moaning, so it's likely he'll be squeezed into proceedings going forwards. Zayn and Owens meant it when they said "fight forever", huh?
Sadly, creative didn't come through for Chelsea Green. They definitely did at SummerSlam, but then seemed to get cold feet on Friday night. The fact a brand new interim Women's Champion was used as collateral for a Women's United States Title feud is borderline ironic considering it was Chelsea who put that belt on the map.
Here's all the good and bad.
