WWE Record:

CM Punk defeated Dean Ambrose - SmackDown - 3rd December 2013

CM Punk defeated Dean Ambrose - Raw - 9th December 2013

Punk and Ambrose are natural opponents; both are accomplished grapplers who have that edge that keeps things interesting. They only clashed twice while in WWE on weekly TV. Punk and Ambrose would likely have feuded if not for Punk leaving WWE in January 2014.

Their SmackDown match was lively and hard-hitting. However, this first meeting has accrued infamy as Punk later revealed that during this match he defecated on himself as a result of broken ribs, a concussion, and a cocktail of antibiotics. The second encounter was more of the same, nevertheless, it felt as if bookers were building up to something.

AEW has the chance to book Punk and Jon Moxley in a dream match that, due to circumstances outside their control, WWE just couldn't deliver on. With Moxley having improved so much since his Shield days, and Punk no longer tending a litany of health related limitations, the two can easily eclipse that little peak they give us during the winding down of Punk's WWE career.
