10 WWE Returns That Nobody Asked For (Which Ended Up Being Awesome)
6. CM Punk (2019)
Now obviously, there wasn't a wrestling fan alive who didn't want to hear Cult of Personality blare through the speakers and watch CM Punk strut back onto WWE television with a twinkle in his eye.
However, the eventual return of the Voice of the Voiceless in 2019 didn't come in the form many had hoped it would in the time since his exit all those years ago.
Instead of interrupting Roman Reigns or Seth Rollins in the middle of a typically formulaic promo segment on Raw, Punk wandered back onto the scene during an episode of WWE Backstage. It was then revealed that the former WWE Champion had been officially hired by FOX to appear on the behind-the-scenes show, suggesting that Punk and Vinnie Mac still weren't quite seeing eye-to-eye.
Yet, despite not being the comeback we were asking for, Punk still became an instant highlight whenever he appeared on the Renee Young-hosted show, taking shots at various WWE stars and booking decisions along the way.
WWE Backstage may be all but dead at this point in time, but the show was fun enough for a spell and gave us an unfiltered Phil Brooks talking about wrestling on TV.
Take what you can get, folks.
