5. The Spirit Squad (2016)

Over the years, WWE has been home to a number of iconic and fondly remembered stables/factions; The Spirit Squad aren't one of them.

The group of deeply irritating male cheerleaders were the sort of heels that made fans instantly want to switch off their televisions or, at best, see them get utterly battered by literally anyone else in the building.

So, absolutely nobody expected to see the group (or at least a few members of it) shoe-horned into a recently resurgent SmackDown's hottest programme at that time, almost a decade on from their last WWE appearance.

But, that's precisely what happened when Kenny and Mikey showed up during an episode of Miz TV in October 2016. Though the full squad hadn't returned to our screens (due to some of the members opting to pass on the appearance), the decision to bring back a fraction of the team to raise Dolph Ziggler's spirits during his heated feud with The Miz turned out to be an inspired one.

The duo would stick around over the next few weeks, acting as a painful thorn in their old pal's side throughout. Sure, their return didn't last too long, and Kenny and Mikey waved goodbye again in November. But, this Spirit Squad revival - aided by a seriously on form Miz - was a lot more successful than it had any right to be.
