10 WWE Returns That Nobody Asked For (Which Ended Up Being Awesome)

4. Roman Reigns (2020)

Though fans were clearly expecting Roman Reigns to return to WWE programming eventually, after he'd spent some time away during the current global health crisis, few were overly excited about the prospect of the "Big Dog" character being crammed down our throats once again.

However, it quickly became apparent soon after the main event of SummerSlam 2020 that this was not the same divisive babyface of old.

Finally leaning into the clear badassery he's always possessed, Reigns set about wrecking everyone and leaving. Within a week of his return the "Tribal Chief" was your new Universal Champion and for the first time ever, not a single soul argued with the move to strap the former Shield member.

Bringing together a family feud for the ages with cousin Jey Uso, Reigns has since gone on to become arguably the most convincing (and brutal) top heel in wrestling today. He's even made go-to mouthpiece Paul Heyman somewhat redundant thanks to his noticeable improvement on the mic.

We may not have been crying out for his Reign to resume before the Biggest Party of the Summer, but we're definitely now thankful to be living in the era of the "Tribal Chief".
