10 WWE Royal Rumble Betrayals You Didn't See Coming
7. Brock Lesnar Eliminates Shelton Benjamin (2020)
Brock Lesnar’s career is based on his ability to dominate any wrestler he faces and any match type he’s booked in. Lesnar won the 2003 Royal Rumble in his first year with the company. 2020’s Rumble was another display of Lesnar’s dominance. Though he would be eliminated by eventual winner Drew McIntyre, Lesnar eliminated 13 men in rapid succession, the most eliminations in a single match (what happens in Saudi Arabia stays in Saudi Arabia).
Lesnar’s domination was met with a unique challenge when #10 made his way to the ring. ‘The Beast’ greeted Shelton Benjamin’s music with a smile. Michael Cole informed audiences of Lesnar and Benjamin’s past. The two were college teammates at the University of Minnesota and are long-time friends and training partners. Benjamin is also godfather to Lesnar’s daughter Mya Lynn.
Paul Heyman and Lesnar welcomed Benjamin with handshakes and hugs, appearing to seal an alliance. As the two competitors waited for #11, Lesnar rocked Benjamin with a German suplex and a clothesline over the top rope. Nobody believed the pact to last, but many expected ‘The Beast’ to at least share the spotlight with his friend a tad longer.
