While today’s WWE values long runs in the Royal Rumble, historically the company has rewarded wrestlers who entered the match late, with the last three entry spots accounting for 11 winners.
Seven men have won the Rumble after logging less than 10 minutes in the match, including John Cena (9:51 in 2008), “Stone Cold” Steve Austin (9:43 in 2001), Alberto Del Rio (9:33 in 2011), Triple H (9:03 in 2016), Brock Lesnar (8:59 in 2003) and Edge (7:19 in 2010). But the clear winner here is Lesnar, who won the 2022 Rumble in an astounding 2:32 after entering last as a surprise entrant. He also managed to toss five men, the second-most in that match.
Winning the Rumble – a match that often tops an hour – in less than three minutes is a ridiculous record that theoretically should never be broken. However, there’s always that fantasy booking gag of the #30 entrant walking out as the last two wrestlers in the ring eliminate each other, allowing the last person to step between the ropes and instantly win the Rumble in one second.
Don’t laugh: If someone can dream it, WWE is the company that could make it happen.
