10 WWE Ruthless Aggression WrestleMania Matches That Should Have Happened

4. Shawn Michaels Vs. Eddie Guerrero (WrestleMania 21)

Shawn Michaels vs Eddie Guerrero is a dream match for the ages that was stolen from us when Eddie Guerrero devastatingly passed away in late 2005.

Unforeseen circumstances ruined initial plans for WrestleMania 22, as The Heartbreak Kid and Latino Heat were supposedly on a collision course. As one of the most unfortunate cases of a dream match that never happened, imagine if it were to take place at ‘Mania 21 instead.

In 2005, Guerrero was coming off a career-best year, ascending to the mountain top by winning the WWE Championship from Brock Lesnar the obvious highlight. After a middling back half of 2004, Eddie was turning it on as he approached WrestleMania season. Elsewhere, Michaels was being prepared for his legendary ‘Mania showdown with Kurt Angle. Shawn vs Kurt was a flawless contest, but to create an even better card from top to bottom, having him replace JBL as John Cena’s opponent would have been a better use of his value as a top guy on SmackDown.

Both Michaels and Guerrero were so impeccably matched. As mat-based technicians, they were sublime. In the air, both men could execute diving manoeuvres with artistic perfection. The evocative selling. The crafty reversal game. The unrivalled competitive fire. The list goes on. The drama that would evolve over the course of this dream contest is the purest form of athleticism meeting emotion this sport could offer.
