10 WWE Ruthless Aggression WrestleMania Matches That Should Have Happened
3. The Undertaker Vs. Goldberg (WrestleMania XX)
Not only was WrestleMania XX a show which tried to facilitate a changing of the guard, but it hosted the return of a larger than life character and unceremoniously banished two others.
Deciding to park his American Bad Ass motorbike back in the shop, The Undertaker returned to WWE as The Deadman, battling Kane in an underwhelming semi-squash match. Elsewhere, Goldberg, along with Brock Lesnar were abandoning ship and fans knew it, proceeding to destroy any potential for a super hoss brawl by ruining the “match”.
Replacing Kane with Goldberg in this contest solves a multitude of problems.
To begin with, not booking a Streak vs. Streak based feud between the men with the two most famous streaks in wrestling was a real misstep. Obviously, this would be at the heart of this story. Also, with Bill leaving the company straight after his ‘Mania payday, the Madison Square Garden faithful were always going to boo him out of the building. Turning heel by challenging The Undertaker, allows Goldberg to embrace inevitable fan heat, and channel his frustrations into a meaningful storyline that did not totally explode in his face.
Added bonus, having this dream match take place in 2004 when both men were not yet ancient relics, may have avoided seeing a near literal deathmatch in Saudi Arabia in 2018.
