10 WWE Stars Of The '90s Who Wouldn't Work Today
2. Val Venis
It's a little counter-intuitive to say that the "pornstar" gimmick under which Val Venis debuted in the late '90s would be less suited to today's WWE when pornography - thanks to the internet - has generally become more socially acceptable in the meantime.
But the company's switch to PG a decade ago would almost certainly prove a pretty firm barrier to entry for any upstart wrestler planning to star in vignettes alongside Jenna Jameson and ascend to the ring in a towel before performing a striptease.
Venis was perhaps more emblematic of Attitude Era edge than any of his contemporaries - so much so that he probably wouldn't have achieved nearly the same success, without a radical character tweak, had he debuted at any time other than between 1998 and 2001.
