10 WWE Stars Who Cemented The Intercontinental Title's Legacy
3. Mr. Perfect
One of the best wrestlers of his generation, Mr. Perfect is also one of the greatest Intercontinental champions of all-time, thanks in large part to the respect he showed the title and the way he carried himself as a champion. Regardless of whether fans loved or hated the Superstar, and most hated him as he reigned atop the WWE midcard, he was everything he claimed to be. He was vastly superior to nearly any other worker on the roster at that point and it showed in every match he wrestled. A wrestler's wrestler that earned the respect of the audience, if not their adulation, he defended against the likes of Brutus Beefcake, Tito Santana and Kerry Von Erich. Guided by Bobby "the Brain" Heenan, Perfect became a premier star for Vince McMahon's WWE, a performer he could trust to deliver on a nightly basis. A loyal performer who worked hurt when he finally dropped the title to Bret Hart, Perfect did right by the business and made every Superstar he wrestled look far better than they were. Hart has repeatedly given credit to Perfect for putting him over as a singles star. Their SummerSlam 1991 match is an all-time classic and the fact that Perfect competed in that bout with a severely injured back proves his greatness beyond a shadow of doubt.
