10 WWE Stars Who Desperately Need New Gimmicks
1. Shorty G
The only way this article could end. Where to begin with the ungodly horror that is Shorty G? It sounds like a joke, it looks like a joke, it must be a joke, but unfortunately for Chad Gable it is not. Or maybe it is? Gable’s current guise is guaranteed to go down in history as one of WWE’s dumbest creative character decisions.
Rewind twelve months back and things were looking much rosier for the former Olympian. 2019 started slowly but Gable soon found himself on a miracle run in the King of the Ring, beating Shelton and Andrade before overcoming Shane McMahon (twice) in the semi-finals. The former American Alpha man came up short against Baron Corbin in the final, but his performances and victories saw an upturn in fortunes for Gable.
That was as good as it got. Gable lost continuously and was made fun of for his height, forcing him to embrace his lack of vertical prowess and take on the Shorty G character. He eschewed traditional wrestling attire in favour of dressing like an actual child, wearing colourful basketball gear with way too much neon. If it looks like a 70-year-old man’s interpretation of what the cool kids are wearing then that is because that is exactly what it is.
Chad Gable is the sort of performer that doesn’t require a lot of creative assistance. He is arguably the best technical wrestler on the roster (and one of the best on the planet) and he has a strange charisma that you can’t teach, not unlike another former Olympian turned WWE superstar. More so than any current gimmick, Shorty G is an indictment of WWE’s creative team.
