10 WWE Stars Who Desperately Need New Gimmicks

10. Carmella

You’d have got long odds on Carmella outlasting Enzo Amore and Big Cass in WWE. Long, long odds, but that is exactly what the Princess of Staten Island has done. She is a former Money in the Bank winner (two times, theoretically), a former SmackDown Women’s Champion and also a past winner of the women’s WrestleMania battle royal. To say she has overachieved is quite the understatement.

But right now Carmella is floating around in the ether, doing a whole lot of nothing. She turned face (sort of) in 2019, sparking up a relationship with R-Truth as he spent night and day defending his 24/7 Championship. The two were split up in the shake-up and Carmella is now on SmackDown, filling spots here and there while doing nothing particularly inspiring.

If anything, Carmella is the poster girl for the lack of depth WWE shows when dealing with its females. Those at the top of the card get attention and layers, while everyone below that level is merely shuffled into ‘face’ and ‘heel’ roles, doing a whole lot of nothing. Carmella is never going to be Eddie Guerrero in the ring but there are lots of ways to skin a cat. ‘Vanilla babyface’ is not one of them.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
