10 WWE Stars Who Desperately Need New Gimmicks

4. King Corbin

Why oh why do wrestling companies keep bringing the king gimmick back? The entire concept has largely been a waste of time in the 21st century. King Booker aside, the crown has been more of an albatross than anything else, lumbering those unfortunate enough to wear it with archaic dialogue and one-dimensional character development.

Baron Corbin’s general lack of development prior to winning the crown gave some hope that it could finally work, that WWE had finally chanced upon someone for whom the title of ‘King’ might be a positive. That may have been the case, but Corbin has now been feuding with Roman Reigns for 14 years and a change is sorely needed.

WWE obviously likes Baron Corbin. It isn’t difficult to see why, and the big man likely deserves a little more respect from disapproving fans. That respect almost certainly isn’t going to come while he reigns as king, a gimmick that has been dead in the water for 20+ years.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
