10 WWE Stars Who Didn’t See Their Own Downfall Coming

8. Matt Hardy

There's no way Matt Hardy could've predicted that his real-life friend Edge and long-term girlfriend Lita would start seeing one another behind his back in 2005. There's always been this sense that Matt is a deep, thoughtful sorta' dude, and that was never clearer when he poured his heart out to fans online and exposed the betrayal.

WWE's axe moved swiftly, and they pushed Hardy out of the frame before fan backlash (and the smell of money) changed their minds. Although this very-real situation threatened to turn Matt into a bigger deal than ever before, it also had a serious impact on his mental wellbeing and left him seeking answers from people who weren't giving them.

Hardy somehow managed to do business despite his broken heart.

He'd been stabbed in the back by the woman he loved, and one of his best buds was in on the act too. It had to be devastating, especially because it came completely out of left field and wasn't something anyone expected.
