10 WWE Stars Who Gambled On A New Entrance Theme
2. Triple H Becomes Less Of A Douchebag
The problem with the Triple H main event-hopeful character of 1999 is that he was too much of a douchebag. The Rock's illumination-uh of this compelled him to just become Thor instead, which was a better fit for a warlord of a big match wrestler.
This was reflected in his theme to a very unfortunate extent. Everything about 'My Time' is brilliant...with the exception of the lead vocal when Chris Warren isn't screaming. The squalling guitar is the soundtrack to somebody hacking into a computer system, which is wonderfully in-character, for that is essentially what Triple H did to the WWF, and there's an epic quality to the chorus that mirrors Triple H's rise to the top. But that opening sting, iconic to many, is subjectively brutal.
Warren was to Zack de la Rocha what Scott Stapp was to Eddie Vedder. He is meant to say "One, two - is this on?", but in his Generation X cool-snarl, it instead sounds like "One-taw, 'sthisawwwwn? Heh, let me hit 'em with that Triple Aitchhhhhh...."
This residual aspect to his character was dispensed with when, with all of the power, Trips in late 2000 bagged himself a bespoke Motörhead theme. 'The Game' is a far more grown-up, classical rock track that suited Triple H's timeless in-ring style and despicable character.
