Okay, so this one is a bit of a cheat. Edge was an established star by the time WrestleMania 22 arrived, a former WWE champion even. But there were still very real questions about his ability to succeed at the main event level. His title reign was cut short and the self-proclaimed Rated R Superstar was understandably disappointed, frustrated, and even angry.

He channeled that frustration into a Hardcore match against Mick Foley, the man he held responsible for the downfall of his championship aspirations, at least from a storyline standpoint. Together, they cut tremendous promos in building to their 'Mania showdown and had fans as excited for their match as any other on the card.

The superstars unleashed on each other, using chairs, 2x4s, and barbed wire to inflict inconceivable pain. Then things escalated significantly as Edge was side suplexed onto a pile of thumbtacks, no shirt to shield his body from the thousands of puncture wounds he received. Bloodied, his body still recovering from the shock of the tacks in his back, he managed to deliver a spear to Foley, through the ropes and a table engulfed in fire.

As he draped his arm over the Hardcore Legend, he realized that he had not only another WrestleMania moment to add to his resume but a career-making performance that would catapult him to the top of the card for good.
