There's talk that a backstage argument with Vince McMahon could be behind Mustafa Ali's recent decision to ask for his WWE release. If that's true, then it'll be a long road back for the high-flyer. That's a pity, because Ali seems like a stand-up human being who could contribute loads to pro wrestling's future.

Worrying signs were there if one looked hard enough though.

Mustafa's latest match happened on the 29 October SmackDown. There, he lost in just two minutes to Drew McIntyre. Losing to someone of Drew's standing isn't an issue, but jobbing in minutes and then not working for months very much is.

Ali's latest role, as a backstage sh*t disturber who manipulated the ridiculously thick Mansoor with ease, didn't get over. In fact, nothing Mustafa has tried since cutting some damn fine promos on SmackDown a few years ago has really worked out for him.

Back to the drawing board or seek pastures new - those are his options.
