10 WWE Stars Whose Best Match Came Against Bret Hart
3. Mr. Perfect
When a man who calls himself “the best there is” and so on goes up against an opponent whose very name is Mr. Perfect, you know you’re probably in for something special. And whenever Bret and Curt Hennig squared off, that’s pretty much what we got.
Again, there are a couple of potential candidates here, as the two put on a memorable display when they met during Bret’s run to the 1993 King of the Ring crown.
But for its grander stage and the fact that it was contested for the Intercontinental Championship, I’ve decided to give their SummerSlam 1991 match the nod ahead of that KOTR clash.
This one’s widely regarded as one of the greatest SummerSlam matches in the PPV’s history, and quite rightfully so. Much like the previously-mentioned Bret vs Bulldog bout, this was another top-notch mat-based affair with headlocks and takedowns aplenty. Despite that, it soon evolved into a rather more vicious contest, after Perfect had turned his back on the match and attempted to flee the arena.
Thankfully, the action would then continue long enough for
Bret to kick out of the Perfectplex, before brilliantly twisting Perfect into
the Sharpshooter to pick up the win and the title.
