1. Rick Martel

A staple of 80’s wrestling, Rick Martel captured the AWA Championship in 1984 and three WWE Tag Team championships with two partners over the course of two runs with the company in the 80’s.

Establishing himself as a solid midcard heel as The Model during the 1990’s, Martel’s run in the WWE endured until early 1995 when he quietly disappeared and began a new career as a real estate agent.

After years in wrestling oblivion, working part time on Canadian independents, Martel began negotiations to return to WWE in 1997 with Don Callis as the Supermodels. At the height of the attitude era and the twilight of his career Martel found himself a hot property and instead took an offer from WCW to return as a singles wrestler.

Injected immediately into a feud between rising stars Chris Benoit and Booker T, Martel inexplicably captured the TV Title from Booker T in February 1998.

One of the most mystifying names WCW attempted to push to counter the edgy WWE, Martel was originally supposed to retain his title in his defence against Booker T and Perry Saturn, but sustained what proved to be career ending injuries during the match.

While he attempted a comeback months later, a further injury susiatined ended Martel’s bizarre WCW run and with it, his career, in 1998.
