The 'Chairs Match' is WWE stretching the lure of TLC a little too far.

Why watch wrestlers dangle from ladders, crash through tables or use everything not nailed down when you could watch... some chair shots, and ones that are only delivered to the back so nobody gets a concussion. That's this lame gimmick in a nutshell, and it has repeatedly failed to enchant anyone on pay-per-view.

Somehow, The Undertaker and Batista made the best of things in 2009 though. They combined to make this 'Chairs' guff an unexpected delight (imagine their faces when Vince said, 'OK, my dudes - you can use chairs, but don't use anything else').

No, it wasn't going to win 'Match Of The Year', but it was damn better than any subsequent 'Chairs Match' WWE has put on. That owes a ton to the chemistry these guys have always enjoyed, and possibly Batista's fresh-as-they-come heel turn.
