What's the most memorable part of 2002? The first ever brand extension? How about the return of Shawn Michaels? If you're talking most controversial, it has to be the mock wedding between Billy Gunn and Chuck Palumbo. The whole thing just went too far, according to the guys who had acted like lovestruck teenagers for close to a year.

When push came to the shove, Billy and Chuck revealed that their vows were a hoax and nothing more than a publicity stunt. GLAAD were not happy with WWE about this, because the LGBT community had been led to believe that the company were serious about promoting a positive gay relationship. More fool them: hadn't they seen other wrestling weddings?

The political correctness of things now makes it impossible to picture WWE trying something like this again. Not only would the media have a field-day and cite a homophobic attitude in the promotion, but such a campy portrayal of gay lovers would feel crass.
