How often do we see someone talking on a mobile phone backstage, only to be interrupted by another character? WWE love opening segments like this, because it's an easy way to script things. Back in 1997, mobiles weren't quite as common. No, pagers were the in thing during the late-90s.

Wearing his trusty fanny pack (bum bag to you Brits) and sporting double denim, The Rock covered all the cliches of the time by also carrying around his pager. Called a 'beeper' by Steve Austin for the purpose of his promo, the device was also joined by Stone Cold's use of 'Memorex'. Holy dated technology, Batman!

The gist of the skit was that Rocky would know Austin was readying an attack when his pager read '3:16'. Pagers began to be phased out when mobile phones became more prevalent, meaning this story is very much dated. Younger fans probably don't even know what a 'beeper' is, and why would they?
