5. AN EYE FOR AN EYE

'Eye for an Eye match: the match can only be won when one competitor extracts the eye of their opponent'.

Wait, what? This is Seth Rollins vs. Rey Mysterio. You don't need a gimmick, just have two of the best wrestlers of a generation, you know, have a fantastic wrestling match. I understand that you're billing this show as The Horror Show at Extreme Rules' (where to begin with that nonsense) but come on now, don't be silly.

Alas, Mysterio and Rollins were forced to do battle in a match that revolved around trying to literally pull someone's eye out of their skull. Why? That seems a little over the top for a professional wrestling show. Rollins won the match, as we all know, before vomiting at ringside. He managed to extract Rey's eyeball by shoving his face into the corner of the steel steps, an impressive feat if you forget just how ludicrous it all was.

To add further insult to injury (to the fans, by the way), this wasn't even the end of the feud! Mysterio and Rollins continued to do battle for the rest of time, with family and Australians getting involved along the way. Strangely enough, having his eye pulled out wasn't the end of Rey Mysterio's storied career.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
