10 WWE Storylines That Made No Damn Sense In 2020
2. Hey, Fiend, You're A Babyface Now!
Braun Strowman's insertion into the WWE Universal Championship match at WrestleMania 36 made no sense. Roman Reigns was scheduled to face Goldberg for the title, itself a pretty nonsensical match. It didn't happen; Reigns pulled out, and Strowman was announced as his replacement. No reason given why, nothing at all.
Strowman won the title and went on to feud with Bray Wyatt over the summer. The matches between Braun and Bray were every bit as engrossing as you presume (ie; not very), but it was the extra-curricular nonsense that really dragged this down. Wacky supernatural gobbledygook is par for the course with Bray Wyatt, but with Braun? It didn't bode well and it produced worse.
The highlight (lowlight) was a bizarre segment involving Alexa Bliss, longtime friend and former partner of The Monster Among Men. The idea was that Strowman was using Bliss to lure The Fiend out but it didn't really work out like that, instead giving us a segment where Wyatt showed empathy after Strowman threatened to press-slam Bliss into oblivion.
Why was Strowman doing that to Bliss? Okay, The Fiend changes people, got it. Why was The Fiend worried about Bliss? Infatuation? Maybe, but all indications since have been that Bliss has the psychological hots for Wyatt and not vice-versa.
The feud ended with the horror movie character as the babyface and Roman Reigns as Universal Champion. Classic WWE.
