Don't come between Batista and the WWE Title, otherwise he'll "rip your head off".

That was the lesson Rey Mysterio learned following Bragging Rights 2008. Turning on his friend, Batista switched from smiling hero into angsty heel who claimed he was sick of playing pals with Rey only to come up short when gunning for the gold. It was a simple story, one that didn't need reality to sell it.

WWE disagreed, and they decided to inject some realness to the tale by playing off of both Mysterio and Batista's friendships with Eddie Guerrero. Y'know, the same Guerrero who had passed away just three years earlier in 2005.

Rey pleaded with Batista to calm down and begged him to think of what Eddie would want for his friends. Coldly, the newly-turned "Animal" said that "Eddie's dead" before beating Mysterio up again. That was an unnecessary line, one only scripted for shock value without thinking of what was best for story.

Shoe-horning Guerrero's friendships with Rey and Batista in did nothing for the turn. Thank God WWE moved on quickly.
