10 WWE Storylines That Were Based On Real Life

8. Money Inc. Attacks Brutus Beefcake's Face

Somehow, despite his face exploding during a parasailing accident three years earlier, Brutus Beefcake recovered enough to play his part at 1993's WrestleMania IX. In order to explain why he was now wearing a mask (without going into gruesome details about the devastating injury), the WWF booked Money Inc. to attack him on Raw.

The briefcase ambush was brilliantly done, and it played off of Beefcake's real trauma; perhaps the only downside to the angle was that fans on Raw didn't seem to care much about Brutus or his plight. That wasn't too surprising considering he'd been out of the limelight for years by that point.

Any reaction might have been better had Ted DiBiase and IRS cut promos talking about how they planned to rub Beefcake's nose in his own misery, but they instead focused on the bigger star, Hulk. After that, the real-life drama aspect of the story was dropped in favour of Hulkamania's sweeping return to 'Mania.

This one would've had real potential had the WWF fans cared about Brutus at all in '93. Unfortunately, they didn't.
