10 WWE SummerSlam Matches That Should Have Happened At WrestleMania

9. Triple H Vs. The Rock - 1998

Both The Rock and Triple H were involved in good matches at WrestleMania XIV. Hunter took on Owen Hart in a continuation of the aftermath of the Montreal Screwjob, defending his European Championship in the process. Rocky found himself up against Ken Shamrock with the Intercontinental Championship on the line, surviving only because Shamrock wouldn't let go of the ankle lock.

Both fine matches, but both with shady finishes and an underwhelming feeling to them. Fast forward a few months to SummerSlam and you have The Rock and Triple H going at it in a ladder match with the IC Championship up for grabs.

It was a heck of a match, a thrilling bout taking place in front of an MSG enraptured crowd, and Triple H pulling the title down from the top of the ladder is an image that still stirs today. If this had taken place at WrestleMania XIV, we'd certainly be talking about that 'Mania in far more glowing terms today.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
