Former NXT UK Women's Champion Toni Storm had made a name for herself wrestling in the European independent circuit, however her popularity level increased when she took part in the 2017 Mae Young Classic. She defeated Ayesha Raymond, Lacey Evans, and Piper Niven before falling short against Kairi Sane in the semifinal round. The 24-year-old came back strong next year to win the tournament.

She signed a contract with WWE in 2018, and the New Zealand-based female wrestler soon earned herself a shot at the premier women's title of the Black and Gold brand. Although she has not made it to the main roster yet, Toni entered the 2020 Women's Royal Rumble match earlier this year. Her run in the organization so far indicates that the backstage officials value her a lot.

The former SWA World Champion disclosed in her interview with The Mirror that she met Triple H and Stephanie McMahon for the first time after winning the multi-woman tourney in 2018. Narrating the incident, she said:

"They just congratulated me and said they really enjoyed it. To be honest though, I was in a whole different world, I couldn't believe what was going on around me and I couldn't believe who was there. They were so nice – it was like no other experience ever."
