SOS, Kofi needs some character development! The only thing he has going for him right now is guy who performs cool moves to save himself from elimination in a battle royal or Royal Rumble match, only to be eliminated anyway minutes later. Theres not much that you can market with that. These days, Kofi doesnt mean too much to the overall stories that WWE is telling. When is that last time you even heard the man cut an actual promo on Raw or SmackDown? If he has received even five minutes combined to audibly put over his character the past three years Id be shocked. As exciting as Kofi can be inside of a ring, hes one of the most boring characters on the roster. He shows up, usually loses, but sometimes wins, then goes to the back. Whether you liked the act or not, hell do the same thing again the next week. Thats all that ever happens with him. WWE has teased us a few times (most notably with a Randy Orton feud) that theyre going to get serious about him. Then nothing ever comes of it. Its not hard to imagine him on the main roster five years into the future doing the exact same thing that hes doing right now. There had been talk recently of Kofi turning heel. While it would definitely make him a more interesting character in the short-term, theres no guarantee that it would work. It is worth trying, though. Even if he falls flat on his face, he can always turn right back. There really isnt much for him to lose at this point. He may be comfortable making the living hes making right now, but if he wants to become a compelling character, then WWE should at least try to do something more interesting than having him just slap his hands multiple times and yelling boom, boom, boom!
As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at."
Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week.
