If WWE hadn't been so embarrassingly insensitive when it came to the booking of Muhammad Hassan, there's every chance we would have seen this match a whole lot more than once. Back in June 2005 things were different however. Cena was the WWE Champion and Hassan was still 'unpinned', coming off a visual pin over the then-Intercontinental Champion Shelton Benjamin. It was early days for Hassan, but in hindsight it was mid-days for Hassan.

Hassan and Daivari interrupted a John Cena promo to start the show, and then-GM Eric Bischoff booked a championship match between the two for later in the evening Those wondering how the match went need only know that it has taken me longer to type this entry than Hassan managed to last against Cena that night.

Yep, WWE had Cena squash their still-rising star in two minutes, making Hassan look like a toothless joke in the process. Cena was beaten down by Christian and Chris Jericho after the match, as the build continued to the triple threat match between those three at Vengeance 2005. Cena has faced Chris Jericho and Christian on TV a whole lot more than once.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
