The man that The Iron Sheik beat for the WWF Championship, Bob Backlund has also been guilty of some increasingly erratic behaviour in recent years. An accomplished amateur wrestler, Backlund was the second longest reigning WWF Champion behind Hulk Hogan. Fans started growing weary of Backlund in the mid-1980s but he hung on and even had a decent run in the 90s, beating rising star Bret Hart for the WWF Championship (before losing it to Diesel in eight seconds at MSG). Backlund disappeared in 1997 but returned in 2000 and had a brief, comical feud with Kurt Angle. Since then Backlund has resurfaced in TNA and WWE, playing up his increasingly erratic behaviour. Always wearing a shirt and dress pants, Bob the teetotaller can usually be found ranting and raving about the virtues of Christianity and trying to lock the crossface chickenwing on unsuspecting people. Inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013 but modern fans will know him more for his nutty behaviour than his feuds with The Sheik.
