And speaking of Lucha Underground, another ex-WWE star that TNA made a move for was none other than Alberto El Patron—or Alberto Del Rio as he was known under Vince McMahon.

Having been infamously fired for slapping an employee that he claims was racially abusive, Alberto was still a big name in the business at the time of his WWE departure. And that presented an opportunity that TNA couldn’t refuse.

Wrestling Inc once again reports, via Dave Meltzer, that TNA offered Alberto a $400,000 deal for minimal dates that would have seen the Mexican Aristocrat appear on the premiere episode of Impact Wrestling on Destination America.

The reason Alberto declined the offer was allegedly because of poor perception of TNA within the industry, though Meltzer was a little more direct with his wording...

But nonetheless, it seems like a very similar situation to that of Mysterio. Having been earning a salary of as much as £625,000, he hardly needs TNA’s money, while the lure of returning to his Lucha roots was clearly too good to resist.
