7. Kevin Owens

Kevin Owens debuted on the main roster by pinning John Cena clean at the 2015 Elimination Chamber pay-per-view. That is one hell of a way to let fans know they ought to take The Prizefighter seriously. Fast forward five years and Owens has put together an impressive resume.

Of all the wrestlers on this list, Owens is the only one who has spent time at the top of the card while on the main roster. He’s a former Universal, United States, and Intercontinental Champion, and has highlighted some of WWE’s most celebrated segments, including the Festival of Friendship alongside Chris Jericho. So can he be overdue for a push?

Since 2017, Owens has been fairly directionless. He had a rivalry with Shane McMahon, during the company’s ill-conceived attempts to make The Chairman’s son a weekly television staple; he has had an on-again, off-again partnership with Sami Zayn; and creative have flipped his character from babyface to heel so many times, you might as well start calling him Big Show.

Recently on SmackDown, Owens laid waste to Jey Uso, putting himself next in line for a shot at Roman Reigns’ Universal Championship. While this feud should be great, you’d be hard-pressed to think Owens has any legitimate shot of taking the title from Reigns. After the Big Dog’s inevitable victory, and some time away from television, creative needs to give Owens a clear identity, before having the opportunity to re-establish himself at the top of the card.
