2. The New Daniel Bryan
The last time Daniel Bryan faced Brock Lesnar the commentary team downplayed his chances of scoring a win. “Being the underdog is one thing,” viewers were told. “This is just downright preposterous.”
Nor were they setting us up for a surprise victory. Daniel did indeed end up battered and beaten. For a long stretch the match was a brutal, one sided affair.
Still, a low blow had briefly given Bryan the advantage, a Yes Lock teased an upset. ‘The Beast’ was an imposing obstacle but perhaps not an insurmountable one.
The newly heel-turned Bryan looked almost gleeful in defeat. He looked as though the weakness had been beaten out of him and he was glad of it.
Few if any superstars can match Brock Lesnar for strength. Whoever defeats him can’t rely on brute force. They will need to work smart.
Luckily, “The Planet’s Champion” is one of the smartest minds in the business. If anyone can plausibly out manoeuvre Brock it’s The New Daniel Bryan.
Even if he wasn’t a brilliant and beloved wrestling polymath you’d still want to see Bryan win the title. If only to see the hemp version of that ugly red belt.
