10 WWE Superstars Who Had Shockingly Long Tenures
2. Greg 'The Hammer' Valentine
Greg 'The Hammer' Valentine is a second generation wrestler who spent more than a decade wrestling in the WWE. He was rarely involved in any major story lines, producing just a handful of memorable moments in his WWE career.
Valentine came into the WWE in 1984 red hot following his feud with Roddy Piper in the NWA and their classic dog-collar match at Starrcade 1983. He began his career by defeating Tito Santana for the Intercontinental title, holding it for nearly a year. After this Valentine would form a championship winning tag team with Brutus Beefcake known as The Dream Team. Upset about having a role in 'The New Dream Team' with Dino Bravo, Valentine briefly resigned. When he returned months later he would fall down the card forming an entertaining comedy tag team called 'Rhythm N Blues' with the Honky Tonk Man. After years of playing a heel the WWE switched the Hammer face, and he was used as a jobber to Earthquake and IRS at WrestleMania VII and SummerSlam '91 respectively. He would fade into obscurity and eventually end his WWE run in 1994.
While Valentine had a long, Hall of Fame career, which includes many accolades and countless titles from his time in the territories from 1976 - 1984, his WWE run had a lot less fan fare. Gone were the days of him being the most hated man in wrestling (PWI voted him this in 1975, 1979 and 1983). His new role would include jobbing to mid carders, getting poked fun of by Jesse Ventura on commentary, and appearing under a hood as one of Shawn Michaels' knights at Survivor Series 1993. Today, he can be found making disparaging remarks about female athletes on podcasts.
