9. Nikki Bella
It’s fair to say few female wrestlers embodied the less than stellar “Divas” style of wrestling in the past few years more than Nikki Bella. It’s also fair to say that few female wrestlers have improved their in-ring ability in the last few years more than Nikki Bella.
Since the start of the Divas Revolution in July of 2015, Nikki has been allowed to compete against extremely skilled female wrestlers working an independent style for the first time, allowing her to develop a bruising move set that few others in the women’s division can match. Between her stiff looking forearms and her recently added STF, she is a force to be reckoned with.
Because Nikki missed over 10 months of action with a very serious neck injury, it was a given that she would return to a massive reaction. When she made a surprise appearance at the 2016 SummerSlam PPV joining the heels’ team, she received arguably the loudest ovation of the night.
Going forward, she has been booked as a face. Since being drafted to SmackDown Live, Nikki has been locked in a feud with a newly heel Carmella. Despite the both of them being talented workers, their feud isn’t lighting anyone’s world on fire, possibly because of the wonky character alignments of the two.
Nikki’s entire character and demeanor are modeled after the prototypical high school mean girl. Despite how nice of a person she seems to be in real life, she plays the mean girl role perfectly in the WWE. Whenever the company decides to run with her as a face, it always feels like they're working against the grain.
Given that WrestleMania season is around the corner, the company would do well to turn Bella heel in order to face off with mega-face Becky Lynch for the SmackDown Women’s Championship.
