10 WWE Superstars Who Sabotaged Their Own Careers
7. Faceless, Graceless, Hopeless
To this day there’s speculation about why it is that CMLL megastar Místico (aka Luis Ignacio Urive Alvirde) tanked so spectacularly under the Sin Cara name in WWE from 2011 to 2014.
While a different man wears the Sin Cara mask now, back in those days Sin Cara was a significant debut for the company, Triple H’s first serious project as EVP of Talent Relations. However, things went downhill almost from day one, with Sin Cara immediately developing a reputation for botching that matched his previous reputation for lightning fast aerobatics.
Was it the new mask and the blue ‘Sin Cara mood lighting' impairing his vision? Was it the failure to adapt to an American style, his disinterest in learning enough English to interact with his WWE roster colleagues? Was it the injuries, his fragility in the ring, and the perception of a bad attitude backstage?
A host of stories abound, but it was probably a combination of the lot: an employee placed in an unfamiliar and restrictive environment that he was uninterested in adapting to.
The last straw was when he ended a match in August 2013 early after dislocating a finger. There are few things that disgust Vince McMahon more than gutlessness. After that, it was just a matter of time: while Urive Alvirde announced his return to Mexico the following January, it was March when WWE got around to actually releasing him.
