10 WWE Superstars Who Went From Hero To Zero In A Heartbeat

1. Giant Gonzalez

It’s easy to see why Vince McMahon fell in love with the colossal, frightening Argentinian ex-basketball star. It’s easy to see why he placed him in a programme with The Undertaker. It’s harder to see why, following their WrestleMania disaster, he tried it again at SummerSlam. And until the Earth stops turning, it’ll be impossible to figure out just why he dressed Gonzalez in that monstrosity of a costume.

Gonzalez debuted at the ‘93 Royal Rumble, wearing a frankly disgusting fur-lined bodysuit, and eliminated The Undertaker, despite not being an active participant in the event. From there, it was on. Gonzalez worked almost nothing but prominent matches, taking on a bonafide superstar at the company’s biggest events.

The twist? They were terrible! Gonzalez, bless him, simply couldn’t move, and Undertaker was far from his slick best at this time. The bouts were sluggish, tedious, downright embarrassing. The colossus resorted to chloroforming ‘Taker in his ‘Mania match, leading to a lame (and streak-tainting) DQ.

Once this feud came to a merciful conclusion, Gonzalez floated around the lower reaches of the card with absolutely nothing to do, before concluding that this wrestling lark probably wasn’t for him, and leaving the company.
