10 WWE Superstars Who Went From Hero To Zero In A Heartbeat
9. Fandango
One of the strangest gimmicks to gain real traction in recent years, Fandango’s main passions were “ballroom dancing” and “his name being pronounced correctly” (probably “wrestling” third). Due to the verve with which he embraced his character and, more importantly, his earworm theme tune, Fandango was thrust straight into a feud with an all-time great, the returning Chris Jericho.
If that’s not exciting enough, their first match took place at WrestleMania of all places. And even more bizarrely, Fandango won! It was a flukey roll up, admittedly, but the record will show that Fandango scored a pinfall victory over Y2J at the show of shows.
It’s tough to figure out what happened after this. Fandango’s entrance music was perhaps the most memorable moment of (the admittedly shoddy) WrestleMania 29, entering the iTunes charts and ringing out in the arena the following night. All the same, nothing was done with the hip-shaking superstar.
He took part in some dull midcard feuds, eating the pin every time, then returned to NXT for an age (where he was actually pretty great, but underused). He’s not the most exciting wrestler in the world, but he’s genuinely funny and has a proven ability to get over, so naturally, he was recently fired.
