10 WWE Superstars Whose Careers Were Shortened By TLC

10. Ric Flair

We'll start with one of the less obvious candidates. Flair took on Edge in what was only WWE's fifth ever TLC match back in 2006. The match itself was for the WWE Championship and took place on Raw. Unsurprisingly, Edge took the win and retained his title which he had won just one week earlier by cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase. You have to wonder wether the then 57-year-old Intercontinental Champion was totally enamoured with the idea of putting his body through such a gruelling match against a guy that left literally everything in the ring. Maybe the lure of a 17th World title reign was too much or perhaps to give his hometown crowd one more huge performance was too good to turn down. It remains to be seen how much longer Flair's career would have actually gone on for if this match hadn't taken place. He would compete in WWE till WrestleMania XXIV in 2008 after a 36-year in-ring career.
