In 1997, The Brawler won a battle royal for a WWF Championship match in Madison Square Garden as the prize. He went on to face then-WWF champion Shawn Michaels in the Garden where it was expected that Michaels would win with consummate ease. However, the powers that be pulled a fast one on all of us as the New Yorker dominated for large periods and looked as if he was going to win, before an interference by D-Generation X allowed the Heart Break Kid to walk away with the belt thanks to a disqualification. It's rather suspicious that there is no footage of this match. We all know how Michaels was a very different man to the born again Christian we know and love today. Maybe he politicked for the tape of the match to be destroyed as if people saw him being beaten up by a superstar such as the Brawler, it could destroy his character somewhat. Mere speculation, but speculation that makes a lot of sense.
