10 WWE Superstars You Never Knew Wrestled In Japan

3. CM Punk

Seeing Punk€™s name on this list might not be surprising to some given the Straight-Edge Superstar€™s nomadic wrestling beginnings. The man who famously walked out of the WWE earlier this year spent years learning his trade on the independent circuit he shared with Daniel Bryan, Seth Rollins and Cesaro. Punk ventured to ZERO-ONE Pro Wrestling for a singular tour in the summer of 2003 with help from friend and talent liaison Steve Corino. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oO8jMsEn2YE Punk€™s time in Japan was remarkably unremarkable. Perhaps shackled by the pure wrestling style, lack of interview time or his indy appearance Punk failed to make an impact. Whereas Punk was experiencing a creative peak at the time in his Ring of Honor feud with Raven, in Japan he was just another wrestler. The upshot was that his matches were solid but unspectacular. Punk would return to Japan as a WWE superstar to greater fanfare. Many have since speculated that Punk could resurface in New Japan but this seems and likely and Punk has insisted that he is to remain a retired professional wrestler.
