Despite being saddled with a seemingly limited gimmick, Goldust always excelled at everything he was a part of in WWE and went above and beyond in getting fans to loathe him.

Within months of his debut, he clinched the Intercontinental Championship and had memorable matches with Razor Ramon and Roddy Piper at the onset of 1997. He then transitioned into a program with The Undertaker, though the focus of their feud was never the title or Goldust himself.

Rather, Mankind had been targeting Undertaker for weeks and was expected to interfere in the Casket match between Undertaker and Goldust at In Your House: Beware of Dog. Sure enough, he popped out of the casket and applied the Mandible Claw to 'Taker, leading to Goldust rolling his incapacitated body into the casket and scoring the victory.

The matchup did more to further the feud between Undertaker and Mankind than it did to boost the stock of either Goldust or the Intercontinental Championship, both of which felt like complete afterthoughts coming out of the event. The Bizarre One dropping the belt to Ahmed Johnson one month later didn't help matters, either.
