10 WWE Tag Teams That Broke Up Way Too Soon

9. The Hardy Boyz

The Hardy Boyz have spent more time together than apart in their two decades in the wrestling business. While it was apparent early on both Matt and Jeff had bright futures as singles competitors later on down the road, that doesn't necessarily mean they should have been broken up as early as they were in late 2001.

Similar to The Bella Twins, The Hardy Boyz's breakup that year is typically forgotten by fans because of how short it lasted. WWE tried to turn Matt Hardy heel and have fellow Team Xtreme member Lita play peacemaker, but their lackluster Armageddon match forced officials to pull the plug on the experiment when they saw it wasn't working.

The Hardy Boyz continued to compete as a tandem through WrestleMania X8 before they were once again split up in the first-ever Brand Extension, with Matt going to SmackDown and Jeff staying on Raw. Both guys won gold on their respective shows, but it did a major disservice to the tag team division in WWE and they were at the height of their popularity as a unit.
