10 WWE Tag Teams That SURELY Didn't Happen (...But DID!)

6. Billy Gunn & Big Show

2001 was a year of transition for the WWE, entering a world with no direct competition, yet still somehow struggling to retain viewership.

Staggering to believe, considering the purchase of their fierce rivals WCW and the subsequent purchase of multiple WCW superstar contracts. But as is so well documented, 2001 did not see Sting, Goldberg or Hulk Hogan, but instead, Hugh Morrus, Shawn Stasiak and Chris Kanyon.

This particular trio drew the ire of several of the WWE’s big men: Albert, Big Show and “The One” Billy Gunn. By the time of this titanic 6-man tag team match at the WW(F)/ECW/WCW-branded Invasion PPV, Gunn and Show had already begun establishing themselves as a dedicated partnership, picking up victories over the Hardy Boyz and different variations of Morrus/Kanyon/Stasiak.

Branding themselves “The Show Gunns” (The One Show would’ve been better), the tandem – with Albert – were ultimately defeated at Invasion, but continued to team against various Alliance tag teams across the rest of the summer. The partnership culminated with a win over the Dudley Boyz in August, as Show went on to represent Team WWF at Survivor Series, and Gunn would eventually link up with former Alliance member Chuck Palumbo.
