10 WWE Tag Teams That SURELY Didn't Happen (...But DID!)
4. R-Truth & Xavier Woods
Research on this entry has led to the fascinating discovery
that when Xavier Woods was attempting to band together Big E and Kofi Kingston
to form the New Day - talking about it being “their time” to step up - Woods hadn’t
even been a TV fixture for a year yet.
Whereas his future stablemates had been notable characters on NXT and the main roster for several years, Woods’ pre-New Day era saw him partner up with R-Truth. The pair won their debut match against 3MB’s Drew McIntyre and Jinder Mahal, and were soon joined by The Funkadactyls, Naomi and Cameron. This drew the ire of the ladies’ typical associates Brodus Clay and Tensai, leading to a short feud between the two teams which Woods and Truth ultimately won.
After this, Woods and Truth usually occupied space on
Superstars and Main Event, aside from a single appearance on Raw in a 6-man tag match with Dolph Ziggler against the Wyatt Family, and a two-on-one handicap squash loss
against Alexander Rusev at Extreme Rules 2014. Their partnership concluded in
July that year following another loss to the Wyatt Family, which then gave
Woods the onus to pursue what would become the New Day, whilst R-Truth battled
for the Intercontinental Championship and in the King of the Ring tournament.
